چکیده

Furcation lesions are associated with increased risk of progressive loss of connective tissue attachment, alveolar bone resorption, and tooth mortality (Bjorn and Hjort, 1982; Becker et al, 1984; Wang et al, 1994; Wood et al, 1989; Hirshfield and Wasserman, 1978; McFall, 1982; Carranza and Jolkovsky, 1991), representing one of the greatest challenges in periodontal therapy. Surgical management permits access for root debridement and decontamination, odontoplasty, osseous recontouring and periodontal regeneration. These procedures aim at the interruption of the disease process, the preservation of the remaining periodontal attachment and most importantly in the case of regenerative therapy the formation of new alveolar bone, new cementum and functionally inserted new periodontal ligament fibres. Successful outcome of furcation defects treatment is clinically defined by the elimination of horizontal and vertical defect components by bone fill. Platelet rich fibrin: New treatment modality in Grade II furcation defects

Plateletrich rich fibrin (PRF) is an autologous healing biomaterial, which incorporates a matrix of autologous fibrin, leukocytes, platelets and growth factors, harvested from a simple blood sample. Various growth factors present in PRF are well-known source of cytokines, usable for clinical applications. Grade II furcation lesion is essentially a cul-de-sac with a definite horizontal component...

A randomized clinical trial comparing enamel matrix derivative and membrane treatment of buccal Class II furcation involvement in mandibular molars. Part I: Study design and results for primary outcomes.

BACKGROUND The objective of this multicenter, randomized trial was to compare enamel matrix derivative (EMD; test) with barrier membranes (control) for the treatment of mandibular buccal Class II furcation defects. METHODS Forty-five patients with 90 comparable defects on contralateral molars were included. Defects were randomly assigned to EMD or bioabsorbable barrier membrane; the contralat...

Periodontal regeneration in human Class II furcations using purified recombinant human platelet-derived growth factor-BB (rhPDGF-BB) with bone allograft.

This human clinical trial evaluated the clinical and histologic response to recombinant human platelet-derived growth factor-BB (rhPDGF-BB) delivered in bone allograft for the treatment of advanced Class II furcation defects. Three mandibular and one maxillary molar furcation defects were treated: Two received 0.5 mg/mL and two received 1.0 mg/mL rhPDGF-BB, in all cases mixed with DFDBA. Clinic...

Enamel matrix proteins associated with GTR and bioactive glass in the treatment of class III furcation in dogs.

This study investigated, both histologically and histometrically, the efficacy of enamel matrix derived proteins (EMD) associated with bioactive glass (BG) and an absorbable membrane in the treatment of class III furcation defects in mongrel dogs. After surgical defect creation and chronification, the lesions were randomly divided into three groups according to the treatment employed: Test Grou...
